August 27th 1937 - Alice Coltrane birthday. An extraordinary harpist and pianist.
Her influence on husband John Coltrane cannot be underestimated. Alice's playing and composing was of another plain. Meditative and soulful it was often based on eastern raga themes. There is no better example of uplifting music.
Here she is with Ron Carter - bass and Rashied Ali - drums, percussion playing Huntington Ashram Monastery from her second album of the same name.
